At the Joyce Theater dance performance, the three dances consisted of several shapes that helped portray the narratives and feelings of each piece.
In the first and performances, circles were vital in the dancing. When all of the dancers were on stage, and when only a select few were on stage, they danced repetitively in circles. Whenever the dancers moved across the stage, they generally moved from the far right to the front left of the stage together.
The second performance was a different in formations: because there was a narrative being told, the formations were a lot more sporadic. There were circles present, but not as heavily as in the other two.
Another feature I really enjoyed about the performances was the teamwork portrayed among the dancers, especially in the second performance. Because there was no live music in this performance, the dancers relied on the sounds of their own movements to keep tempo. At one point during the dance, the President’s workers quietly performed a move. Without even looking back the President just had to know when the workers were done dancing to begin his move. This just exhibits the amount of effort put in to the dance, and how well the dancers are so in-tune with each other.
