Audience and Atmosphere at the Roundabout Theater

The audience in Therese Raquin was a variety of ages, which was very different from the other performances since before most of the audience were an older age. Little kids with their families and older couples all came to watch the show. Most of the audience dressed between a cross of fancy and casual, but not as fancy as the opera attire. The audience was also very interactive in that they laughed at the funny moments.

The atmosphere of the Roundabout Theater had a very old filmy vibe with red walls and ceilings embellished with intricate designs as well as cheetah print carpet. The set in the play was my favorite part because there was water on the stage which was very unique. It was scary to see the backdrop of Madam Raquin’s home come down in between scenes because it seemed too heavy. The manipulation of lights was really clever because sometimes instead of using a spotlight, some backlight would hit the windows of the home to show sunrise or sunset. Overall the performance had a very pleasant audience and atmosphere.
