Census
During the 1870s, the northern and southern areas of Chinatown were mainly inhabited by Italians who lived in Little Italy and Irish and Jews who lived in Five Points. Five Points was notorious for illicit gang activity, gambling, brothels, and slum tenements. Chinatown pushed into Little Italy and Five Points as more Chinese immigrants came to Chinatown.
The 2010 United States census reported that the population of Chinatown is 47,844.1
