Polaroid

Go
Put on those
Faded running shoes
The same ones with laces dangling
From the tracks of yesterday
and run to the end of the world and back.
Singing blues
Like no tomorrow.
Run
Out and away from
Anxiety and perfection
Because imperfection is the key
To a lock that turns back time
To when you were fifteen.

Spin
Let the breeze of your unkempt hair
Be the only distraction
To the smile on your face
And answers are the questions
You dare to seek.

Cry
In the spontaneity of living
And scream
And shout and dance and sing
Around the garden hose— a waterfall,
The faucet leaks— a stream.
The backyard tent— a castle
The world uncovered— a dream.

Go.
Take a Polaroid picture.
To remember the one moment of youth
When everything falls together
Because it can
And worrying is saved for
When you grow up again.

What am I inspired by?
When people ask me that, there’s an unlimited number of answers that pour beyond my lips. I don’t really know. What are you inspired by? Some people are inspired by the loves of their life. Could be a parent, could be a child, could be a significant other. Could even be a dog. Yet others are inspired by people on television and movie stars and athletes. They provide the “image” of what we all want to be and what we all want to have, at least once in our life. And still, others are inspired by the regular heroes, the police officers and the firefighters, the teachers and the counselors. Some are inspired by the beauty of nature. Some are inspired by the natural effect of beauty. But there is not one answer. I am not only inspired by the people around me and the people I have come to love so much, I am also inspired by the tiny things of life that can barely make a difference– but difference does it make. I am inspired by every gust of brisk air I breathe and inspired by every misunderstood shaped clouds in the sky. I am inspired even by those who hurt me or hated me, because it is for that reason that I question who I am.

Inspiration is a very broad term. And it can ignite a plethora of wonderful feelings and thought. So then again I ask.
What are you inspired by?
