The Big Apple Choreography

There are those who say that dance is only for the screen

That nowhere in real life is it actually to be seen

Well, I guess there’s a lot that these folks are overlooking

Because in good ol’ New York City, there’s always some dance cooking

The trick, you see, is to see what others can’t

Which might even involve turning your head at a slant

Like when a man walks the streets with a briefcase he just bought

When he’s seen from a slant, he’s on a box, dancing the trot

Or when a woman buys a coffee and asks for her change

She’s actually waltzing with Washington and testing her vocal range

Or when a raccoon tips a trashcan in search of goodies to chomp

He’s just slamming the lid to rehearse his performance of stomp

There are many jigs to be viewed when New York starts to move

I didn’t think this was something that I needed to prove

But when a man looks at me and says, “Son, I don’t approve”

It’s time for me hold up a mirror and show him his daily groove
