The by far most influential genre of music to come out of the Rastafari culture is Reggae. It’s global popularity helped communicate Rastafari beliefs and teachings to exponentially larger audience.

Reggae evolved from Rocksteady in the late 60s/ early 70s. Reggae is defined by it’s skank beat that is symmetrical, meaning it has an even 4/4 beat, like Nyabinghi, but unlike Ska. Reggae’s lyrics usually talk about the Rasta culture and religion. 4

Reggae is so big because of Bob Marley, a name I’m sure you all know. In the mid 70s Reggae got it’s global stage and today still continues to be a lasting music genre that can also adapt and evolve despite its strong roots tied back to Jamaica, Africa, and the Rastafari movement.

Another notable Reggae artist is Steel Pulse, a group from the United Kingdom, today they are still producing music.
