The island of Manhattan contains well over two million residents spanning 13 miles of land. With this large concentration of organisms living in one small area, it is hard to imagine any diversity of inhabitants living on this tiny strip of land. However, with small patches of green space such as Central Park and the infusion of inhabitants such as domesticated animals, Manhattan harbors quite a collection of species in specific areas. This particular diversity is not equal throughout the entire island, urban gradient, and richness and evenness varies greatly between parts of the land where there is less or more urban development. How does diversity on the island shift with the health of humans living in different parts of the island.
