The environmental and social impacts of food waste are felt around the world. The environmental impacts include the emission of greenhouse gases, like methane, which contribute to climate change. The social impacts include hunger and the depletion of vital, natural resources. Because the causes of food waste in developing nations differ from those in developed nations, the solutions vary among locations. Although causes and proposed solutions differ, one aspect of food waste is consistent: it’s implications. Food waste affects everyone everywhere either directly or indirectly and, therefore, needs to be actively addressed.
