Statistically, there are 6 deaths per 100,000 in New York City, which is approximately half of the national suicide rate of 11 deaths per 100,000 people. This study provides an evaluation of the demographic elements affecting the prevalence of suicide in New York City. Demographic elements taken into consideration include race, income, and gender. A case study of neighborhoods of differing income was used to depict the socioeconomic stratification of suicide in New York City.
