Final Thoughts on Fall For Dance
Submitted by b_montoni on Fri, 10/23/2009 - 12:52Now that we are wrapping up on our discussion of dance, I thought I would share my final thoughts on this art form and the Fall For Dance Festival at the New York City Center. Unlike most of my fellow peers, I have never been to museum exhibits, theatre and dance performances, and concerts. I am the New Yorker who lacked New York culture, and IDC has allowed me to gain a sense of the culture of New York.

ASEDOM
Submitted by Laura Abreu on Sun, 10/18/2009 - 17:52Last Thursday, I attended an ASEDOM club event. ASEDOM is a club dedicated to the dominican community in Baruch. Its event, called "Kumbacarey" was a celebration of the Dominican culture during communist rule, specifically when Trujillo, the country's last dictator was in power. This kind of afro dominican style of music was banned while he was in rule, as were many other things.
Hip Hop Modern Dance
Submitted by im.mattlaw on Sat, 10/10/2009 - 04:48Since we're on the topic of dance, here are two great videos that you will enjoy and relate to. There are many types of dances, and as the paper that we have read about Mark Morris, choreography to a music piece can be interpreted in many ways.
Fall for Dance-
Submitted by im.mattlaw on Thu, 10/08/2009 - 03:03During Fall for Dance, the last performance was my favorite, which was choreographed by Mark Morris. Firstly, I liked the gloomy and dark tone of the music in the beginning and secondly, I liked the way they moved with the music, such as when a dancer laid on the floor and dropped the left hand then the right hand then the left foot and so on accordingly to the beat of the music. Then when the music transformed from the gloomy tone to a more upbeat tone, the dance became more active itself.
