Power of photography
Submitted by NLopez786 on Fri, 09/18/2009 - 10:11Walking into the International Center of Photagraphy, I was immediately entranced by the photographs. I tried to keep my focus on what the curator was saying during the intro, but my eyes immediately jumped to the photographs already on the wall. The eyes, the images of the woman with the animals, I wanted to just stop and stare at everything, but I didnt think of myself as actually analyzing anything or retrieving some message. It wasn't until the John Wood exhibit that I realized the power of photography as art.
International Center of Photography :)
Submitted by aimee_xoxo on Fri, 09/18/2009 - 00:52<!--StartFragment-->So today our IDC class went to see the International Center of Photography at the perfect time, during Fashion week. There was an exhibition of Avedon Fashion from 1944-2000 and it was really amazing. The photographs captured the style of each era it was representing. I was looking at all the photographs and I really loved the series of Mike Nichols and Suzy Parker.
Decoding Photographic Intention
Submitted by stephanie.lascano on Fri, 09/18/2009 - 00:10I must admit, photography is an artistic medium that I never quite had the best understanding of. With painting or performance or music it's irrefutable that the effort that goes into these works requires a motive, an agenda to express a certain idea. But, by pressing a button to snap a picture, I didn't find it as straight-forward. To me, a picture in a gallery put side by side with a picture that had no artistic implication looked the same. Until I attended the John Wood exhibit at the International Center of Photography.
