From The Integration of Dominican, Chinese, Russian and Mexican Immigrants in NYC

Hello, my name is Lisa. I am a Japanese American and I was born in the middle of America, also known as Nebraska. My parents are Japanese immigrants and my father first came to the United States as an exchange student. Living in conservative, rural Omaha, Nebraska my family was forced to integrate into American society in order to be accepted into society. Here, in New York City, we are comfortable maintaining our own ethnic identity because our new community is more accepting of it.
