From The Integration of Dominican, Chinese, Russian and Mexican Immigrants in NYC

File:Photo_19.jpg‎ Hello! My name is Matt Law and I am currently 18 years old. I reside in Staten Island, New York, and I actually like it. Both my parents migrated from Hong Kong, which makes me a second-generation immigrant. My mother is Shanghainese and migrated to Hong Kong when she was very young due to the spread of communism in China. My father was born and raised in Hong Kong. When my father first came to the U.S. as a 22 year old, he wasn't fluent in English, which made his integration fairly harder. He slowly learned the language, however, not knowing English didn't hinder his business in the U.S surprisingly. On the other hand, my mother came to the U.S. fluent in English, which has made her integration into the U.S easier in general. Both my parents, including myself, love to travel to Hong Kong. With that said, my mother favors New York more. She loves the cultural diversity and nature of the urban and suburban mix (as do I).
