Eileen,

This is an interesting segment of an interview. What can you conclude from it? Does the issue of "arranged marriage" get more complicated when immigration is involved? Does it suggest that whether the marriage is a love marriage or arranged, gender roles haven't changed that much? To what extent is she typical of the women working in Jackson Heights businesses?

Wish you'd pursued several questions a)she says she doesn't worry about the marriages of her children. What does this mean? Does she let them date? How will she feel if one of them brings somebody home and says "I want to marry him/her"? Suppose a child were getting older and hadn't found anyone on their own? Would she arrange something? b) since she works, does her husband do any of the household tasks that he might not have done in India, or does she manage everything about the house and children?

If you were to do another interview, what aspects would you pursue?
