Indian Americans participate in management and professional fields in the greatest number. According to the US Census Bureau’s “We the People: Asians in the United States” from the 2000 census, Sixty percent of Asian Indians are employed in management, professional, and related occupation compared with 34 % of the total population. Additionally, Asian Indians hold the highest percentage of those who have obtained Bachelor’s degrees at 64% of any other group in the United States. In 1999, the Median family Income for Asian Indians was $70,708 and Pakistani was $50,189 compared to $50,046 for average US.

More than 300,000 Indians worked in technology firms in California's Silicon Valley, with their average income estimated at $125,000 a year. About one-third of the engineers in Silicon Valley are of Indian descent, while over 7 percent of valley's high-tech firms are led by Indian CEOs.
