MET: Age of Rembrandt

For Nadine Orenstein’s presentation, she spoke about mainly the art of preservation and the techniques of different artists. The way that she studies the varying time periods that produce different results can compare to the experiences of Cambodian dancers, in that they are both trying to preserve ancient art forms, as well as understand them. While Cambodian dance was part of Em Thea’s culture, art forms and techniques are part of ours. I really enjoyed some of the art that we viewed at the Met, especially the sketch of eleven heads – I forget the name of the piece. What I liked about it, however, was that it showed the different angles of the face, and different emotion. It was also drawn at different times, so it seems like it was meant to be just a practice sheet. I love that some characters are fictional, while some are real, while some are fantasy, like the head of medusa. I think that although it may not have been meant to be a piece of art, all together, every head worked well together and complemented each other. That one piece stood out to me the most.
