A Note on History

As a potential history major, I loved the definition of history in Peiss’ preface, which ended with “History is the relationship between the present and the past. Thus the history of sexuality also illuminates ourselves and contributes a significant perspective to contemporary debates about sexual matters” (xvii). It reminded me of some of the marks Professor Quinby made during our first class, about how over her years teaching some form of this course, students had responded differently to Foucault. This observation is proves the truthfulness of Peiss’ statement, for it is not Foucault’s history that is changing, but the students and the time in which they study it.
