The Box
This box was said to be of royalty since and it had contained the jewelry and findings of some one that was from the royal family. In many ways the box demonstrates the concepts behind the artifacts that required such tastes and is considered a huge find based on the religious trends.
The Dinner Party
I had heard about The Dinner Party some years ago without actually understanding what it was, so I was especially excited to see it at the Brooklyn Museum. The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago is a famous piece of feminist art. The piece took a total of six years to complete. It includes the names of over 1,000 women in history. The piece consists of 39 place settings at a dinner party in the shape of a triangle. Each place setting custom made to represent a significant woman in history and her achievements. A lot of the embroidery and other designs you see at each woman’s setting, in addition to that woman specifically, represent fertility and woman in general. The table lies on the Heritage Floor, which consists of 999 names of women. Looking at pictures of this piece of art is not nearly adequate. You must go see it for yourself!
There is also a really great video in the museum of Judy Chicago describing the process of making the piece and all the support she gained over a span of six years.
Autumn Landscape.
This stained glass artwork, named Autumn Landscape gives a Landscape view of a river. This type of stained glass was revolutionized through Auto Landscape. The river in the picture represents the River of Life, and if you try to look past the landscape, you can see why this is the river of life. The mixture of darkening colors with the light colors just shows the contrast and how fast the time is changing.
Making this type of stained glass is very different and difficult, because it is made by using a combination of powdered metals. Platting is used, which is using several sheets of glass to construct the piece of art instead of just etching on one piece of glass. Also, the glass is manipulated to express multiple texture. This piece takes alot of time to create due to the complexity, which is why it is even more enjoyable.
A fun fact: The creator of this stained glass, Louis Comfort Tiffany, is the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany, the originator of Tiffany and Company!
Monstrous Museum
The architecture within the Brooklyn Museum is quite amazing. Many times, I found that the architecture of the building itself was more interesting than the actual pieces of art inside of the museum. If you get a chance, go to the Brooklyn Museum, so at the least you can see the exquisite architecture inside and outside this massive building.
