Welcome to the Lower East Side.

December8

Welcome to the Lower East Side, also known as LES.  Yes, this is where Rihanna’s “What’s my Name” ft Drake was filmed.  Once one of the most densely populated areas with many immigrants, the Lower East Side is currently bustling with activity, from delicious food, to other fun activities!  Here are the views from my dorm room located at 101 Ludlow Street.

Williamsburg Bridge

December8

While visiting the Lower East Side, you should definitely visit the Williamsburg Bridge.  This magnificent bridge sits strong and connects the Lower East Side with Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  The pedestrian lanes contain two Bicycle lanes and two walking lanes.  The flamboyant red walkway stands out amidst the metallic colored bridge.
The bridge provides a great oppurtunity for runners and bikers.  The view is great of both the city, and you can even view other bridges from the Williamsburg bridge.

After walking halfway through the bridge, I noticed the sign in the middle.  It was supposed to say Williamsburg Bridge, but over the time, people have drawn over it with graffiti.  Though this may seem like it destroyed the art of the bridge, graffiti can still be considered art.  Each layer of graffiti was made by someone else trying to put their name out there.

By sundown, you can also get a beautiful view of the sun from the bridge.  I’d say this is a great place to relax when one is stressed.  Yes, it can be noisy due to the train and the cars, but you can still appreciate the city!

Congee Village

So what is Congee? Congee is a type of rice porridge, with a mix of meats or vegetables added in.  Usually, Congee is served hot in bowls, and is salty, but there are also canned Congee which is sweet.  Congee Village is probably the best place to grab Congee on a cold winter day.  Eatting Congee provides your body with warmth.  But don’t worry! Congee isn’t the only food that they serve!  Congee Village has a huge selection of food, from the typical takeout food, to traditional and regional chinese food.  You can’t go wrong by going to Congee Village, because the taste is great!  For traditional Chinese people, this place has the rotating table.

Bored of just food? Don’t worry! Congee Village also serves alcoholic beverages.  If you’re under 21, you also don’t have to worry! Congee Village serves exotic drinks such as Lychee Ice Drink, Green Tea with Honey, Bubble Milk Tea, and other fruit drinks.  Whatever chinese food you crave, you can probably find it here!

Food for Three Monkeys.

Looking for a spot to eat real late?  Looking for Cheap ‘easy’ food?  The Three Monkeys, located on the corner of Ludlow Street, provides great food, such as wraps, fries, burgers, and others.  There isn’t much space inside, but the food is definitely worth it.  You also get to sit on couches!  In addition, you get a view of everyone walking by, because of the big windows.

What’s better than great food at late? Never be hungry again if you visit this area!

After feasting in the different restaurants in the Lower East Side, why not end with a delicious Crepe?  Creperie serves amazing Crepes, such as Vegetarian Crepes, “Savory” Crepes, and Sweet Ones, so you can also get breakfast here!  I’d recommend getting the “Famous Crepe”.  I mean, it’s named the “Famous Crepe” for a reason.  The blend of Nutella, Banana, and Ice Cream in your mouth will make you drool for more.  Yeah, the price is $10.00, but it’s definitely worth every penny.

Just take a look at that mock crepe! It already looks SO GOOD!

21+ ONLY.

So what do people do after they eat in the Lower East Side? (Assuming they’re 21)! Of course! They go to the bars, and just hang around.  The Lower East Side has numerous bars that provide tons of entertainment.  Everytime I step out of my dormitory, located on 101 Ludlow Street, even on a Monday night, there are always people very happy hanging outside the bars.  Here are a few that I noticed had many different customers.  Though I can’t give specifics about each since I had not entered, I’m sure these bars are very popular.

1452 2nd Avenue New York, NY 10021-3008 – (212) 327-3043
Open Daily 12pm-4am

The color of the doors already attract customers.  The bright red color definitely stands out.  Also, this ‘medieval’ sort of theme just makes it seem even cooler!

137 Ludlow Street
New York, NY 10002
(212) 529-2153

Another bar, I thought the lettering of this place was pretty cool.  While I tried to look through the door, it was extremely dark, which probably provides a good bar environment.  I mean, doesn’t Libation sound cool? I’d definitely check this place out!

158 Ludlow Street
New York, NY 10002
(212) 505-3733

Open Daily 3pm-4am
When I first moved here, I was always wondering what kind of place this was.  This place would always be packed.  The first time I walked by, I thought it was actually a music store, until I saw the bouncers outside, and a huge line.  This place is definitely a great place to drink, and I know because I see how many people line up!
