Barbuda Archaeological Field School

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be an archaeologist, be a part of field research exploring Caribbean Archaeology! Barbuda, a Caribbean island about 74 miles east of the US Virgin Islands, offers a pre-history that goes back more than 3700 years, challenging much of what was previously assumed to be true. This unique honors study abroad program, sponsored by Brooklyn College, allows you to examine the pre-historical record.

While learning proper archaeological excavation techniques, conduct interdisciplinary research with scholars in Ecology, Paleobotany, Marine Biology, and Archaeology.  No previous experience required – the field school program is appropriate for students at all levels.  Planned excursions include trips to pre-historic caves with petroglyphs, hiking through the highlands to tropical sink holes, a boat trip to the Frigate Bird Colony in the island’s mangrove swamp, and an inter-island excursion trip to neighboring island Antigua.

Program dates: January 4 – 24, 2010

Program cost: $3400 USD

Application Deadline: October 15
