The Lion King

December 4, 2012

How can one discuss the culture of NYC’s Great White Way without including the all famous Lion King. I’ve seen this musical several times, in both live play on broadway and the digital version. The Lion King is one of those plays that brings together families. In the last post I discussed how there was a pop culture revival that essentially saved broadway after 9/11. However, this was one of the few plays that still brought a sell out crowd on a regular basis. Why? Family and family values I say. A night out on broadway is great for families, but many little children simply aren’t interested in such a thing. But that all changes when it comes to the Lion King, the highest grossing broadway musical of all time. Kids and people of all ages line up to see it, it has become a staple of the broadway culture and tradition. It’s plays and musicals like this that I would like to see more of, and there are a few (Mary Poppins), because they simply bring joy to families. The Lion King is a great way to introduce our youth into the fantastic culture that is Broadway.
