I was asked to take note of the people visiting the 9/11 Memorial. Here’s what I noted:
Upon entering the memorial space, the vibe of the city completely changes. There are many people: some taking photos, some looking for names, and others just casually walking by. Some people stop to look at the memorial and then go on walking. There is a lack of loud voices; so much so that the sound of the running water can be heard very clearly. With the absence of voice, the pensive mood is present. Maybe it was all in my head, but everyone looked so thoughtful. Ultimately, I can conclude that the behavior of visitors at the 9/11 Memorial is very different from that of people in the rest of the city.
