Not just readings–although we’ll have some of those, too.
The primary text for this class (supplemented by other sources, and by things you will find and curate or create yourselves) will be the award-winning online web-book Smarthistory.
This means that much of the “reading” for this class will be in the form of videos. There are many advantages to this medium–you can see images at the same time as you’re “reading” (really hearing) text. You can have more than one voice and have more than one kind of response. But this also means that you will have to spend the time, in advance, to actually watch (often more than once) and listen to the videos. There is no way to “skim.” So make your schedule adjustments accordingly!
