Alice in Wonderland by Margaretta and Alexis

We chose to look at the sculpture of Alice in Wonderland, which can be found at East 74th St -north of the Central Park Water Conservatory. Standing at 11 feet, it has become one of the most popular works of art in Central Park.
It was commissioned in 1959 be George Delacorte, in memory of his late wife Margarita. It was brought to life by the sculptor Jose de Creeft. Young children are able to enjoy Lewis Carol’s characters by being able to play on the sculpture itself. Being so accessible, truly makes it public art.

Here is a bit of background.

And here is the interview.
