Start thinking of your group projects. In two weeks you will be asked to form groups and then chose a topic. In preparation I would like you to discuss among yourselves the options.
Here is a very unique way of representing numbers:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/8280657
What would you do to represent all of the locations in New york city where 20th century composers lived?
Could you make a cartoon art to represent a location or a lecture on a topic in the arts?
How would you make a map of New york that spoke or sang in different locations?
Could you create a text that had embedded images and sounds within the words?
Maybe you could design a tour for others that covered a historic movement or artistic innovations. see an example: http://www.cambridgesculpturetrails.co.uk/about.htm
You could create a poetic format, a rap song, a garage band introductions and or a theatrical performance. Make sure you give yourself time to develop your idea and then ask for help. You are not obliged to pick any of the suggestions above, they are examples for the different directions you may take.
Remember your limitation is New York city and New York art/artists and art movements.
We will discuss it in greater length in class.
Here is a literary map of NY published in the NYTimes a few years back that might provide you with some inspiration for your projects: http://www.nytimes.com/packages/html/books/20050605_BOOKMAP_GRAPHIC/
