Bias has been prominent in the news articles we read. The news articles I looked at pertained to adding a debt ceiling for Hurricane Harvey. U.S. House of Representative has passed a legislation where the government will provide $15.25 billion in emergency disaster aid. There has been controversy over this topic because the Democrats were dominant in these decision, while the Republicans were in disagreement. The two articles I read are from Bloomberg News and US News. In the article I read, “Congress Sends Debt Ceiling, Hurricane Aid Package to Trump,” written by Bloomberg News, there is a lot of bias present. This article explains the frustration that the Republicans faced. The chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee, Mark Walker informed Republicans to vote for the debt ceiling which angered Republicans. Also, the article explains how Republicans believe that the Democrats will take power in the White House and Congress. It only depicts the aspects from Republicans side, stating quotes from only Republicans. Furthermore, the article presents bias with the business aspect by emphasizing the amount of money that will be needed to support not only Hurricane Harvey, but also Hurricane Irma. Also the article describes the risk for Republicans will face in December. They label this part of the news “Bruising December,” which presents bias because they predict that December will be good for the Democrats and risky for Republicans. The other article I looked at was “Congress Sends Trump Disaster Aid, Debt Limit Increase,” written by US News.  This article describes the events that are happening regarding the signing of the bill in a more non-bias manner. It shows the measures that will be taken by Trump. Trump will set a debt ceiling for aid. This article also depicts the Republican’s anger, but does so by not taking the Republican side. It explains more on how Trump did favor the Democrats, but does not look how that will be a risk to the Republicans. Lastly, the authors describe how Trump is expected to sign the law soon. Overall, Bloomberg sides with Republicans while US News remains neutral.
