My Ecological Footprint

In the state that earth is right now, it is imperative that humans, one of the stressors on the planet. Taking the footprint calculator test and the free carbon calculator test, helped me see how I could improve my lifestyle to help the environment and possibly be healthier for me as well. These were the results:

Footprint Calculator:

Test 1: 3.6 Earths (if everyone lived like you)

Test 2: 2.3 Earths

Free Carbon Calculator test:

Test 1: 35% Better than average, 34 tons co2/year

Test 2: 42% Better than average, 30 tons co2/year

*Test 1 was original lifestyle and Test 2 was what I could possibly change and live comfortably for both calculators*

The test itself allowed me to see what I could change, but I don’t because of the plethora of resources around me. It showed me what I could possibly sacrifice and what wouldn’t be that much of a deal because it was a healthier lifestyle. The test uncovered lifestyle situations that I never thought of just because I was provided with things that didn’t require me to think about a lifestyle change. Becoming more reliant of vegetables and non processed foods isn’t a hard choice to make, and with a small diet change and monitoring what I eat, it shouldn’t be too hard, since I fast regularly religion wise. Additionally, driving is a part of my life especially where I live in Queens. I decided that in the future I will look into efficient cars and maybe long-boarding more to save gas.

However, the amount of travel is not something I would like to change. There is a minimum of about 100 miles every week for commuting to school, and extracurricular activities on the weekends.

Overall, these calculators made it more clear in understanding the imperative nature of making subtle changes to save the Earth.
