“If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” Boy, was Sir Van Gogh right on target. For those of you who know me, or at least who think they do, I am no artist. I’ve got the ideas in my head, the creative energy flowing in veins and the brainstorming going on in my brain. I have lists and iPhone notes, bookmarks and Pinterest pins, magazine clippings and everything else in between taking over my life. Yet, one problem still persists-“ain li musag” (I have no idea) how to forge a connection between my brain, my hands, and the paper. From the time I was little until now, I’ve been drawing stick figures. I’ve always had handwriting on the messier side. I’ve always needed an art teacher to finish up my projects for me.
BUT, just this week, I had my AHA moment! I forged that connection. I bridged that gap. And I executed my ideas. Upon opening the glass door to my latest find, I was in heaven! The Craft Studio (on the UES of course) is a haven for those out there like me. With no sitting fee, unlimited supplies, endless projects and cheerful and helpful staff-this spot is my new “go to” place. So, I channelled my inner Van Gogh, chose some paintbrushes and selected my colors and voila!-an artist was born!
