Spur Tree Lounge

Spur Tree has a Jamaican-Asian menu and features DJs playing reggae and dancehall tunes. Traditional Jamaican is a big part of the food here. They serve “Ackee and Codfish Bruschetta,” a spin on the Jamaican national dish, ackee and codfish, known in Jamaica as “ackee and saltfish.” Ackee is the national fruit of Jamaica, has a orange-yellow outside and a yellow inside, with three black seeds. Their appetizer menu also features the famous Jamaican patties, either beef or chicken. Patties are delicious pastries that contain various fillings including different meats and vegetables inside a turnover crust.

For their entrées, the Spur Tree serves “Marinated Jerk Chicken,” served with a famous side dish in Jamaica, rice and peas. Also on the menu is “Curry Chicken Tender,” “Curry Goat,” “Braised Oxtail Stew,” and “Brown Stew Chicken,” Jamaican favorites all served with rice and peas. The Spur Tree also serves a Caribbean and Indian favorite, roti, with curry goat, curry chicken, or curry seafood. Roti is an Indian bread and comes in many different types, such as “dhal puri,” and “sada roti.” For their side dishes, the restaurant features Jamaican and American favorites. On the American side, they serve sweet potato fries and a mac and cheese pie. On the Caribbean side, they serve “Panko Crusted Sweet Plantains,” a twist on the Jamaican plantains, a Jamaican favorite; rice and peas; roti, and “Warm coco bread.” Coco bread is a delicious buttery Jamaican bread baked with a little coconut milk that is often eaten with Jamaican patties sandwiched in-between. This restaurant has a great menu that is very reflective of the Jamaican culture that the chef was raised in.
