Just a quick item that came across my RSS reader yesterday. One of your Macaulay classmates, Noah, is studying abroad in Ireland, and he’s got a very interesting post on his blog about some of the differences he’s finding in school there, compared to school here.
Read his post and see if it prompts any ideas for you.
We’ll be talking (in these reflections and elsewhere) about school in different times (including the future). But what about different places? Noah made me remember that I forgot to ask you about that. Some of you have studied abroad, or will be doing so. Others might have lived in other countries at other times in your lives.
So when you post about “Where Have You Been?” You could also think about “where” as meaning “where in the world?” instead of just “where in time?”
I thought it was very interesting to hear Noah’s story. He seems to really be enjoying his time in Ireland, and the way he described everything was really magnificent.
I never gave much thought to studying abroad, because it just never really interested me. If i was going to go to Ireland or Italy the last thing I would want to do was sit in a lecture. But Noah’s account was very persuasive, his description of his specific classes and how he compared them to his classes back in “the states”. Maybe it will have me reconsider my own motivations.
Whether it does or not we will wait to see. Either way, seems like his semester will be quite fun and exciting.
