Doodler’s Anonymous : A Roller Coaster for the Mind
Doodler’s Anonymous is a very entertaining and interesting blog created by OKAT to celebrate people’s addiction to doodling, sketching, and drawing anything that comes to mind. This colorful and visually appealing site has been showcasing the amusing, spontaneous thoughts that go through people’s minds since September 2008.
Doodler’s Anonymous only displays hand drawn illustrations sent in by many different people. The layout of the site is very simple, with a few advertisements on right hand part of the screen and drawings on the rest of the page. The site also offers visitors other sites they could visit if they found Doodler’s Anonymous interesting. The advertisements never pop up and never intrude on the viewing pleasure of the audience. In fact, I found that some of the advertisements were interesting and amusing, adding to my enjoyment. For example, one of the ads that I saw promoted a laptop leather bag with a bird resting on a bar while TIE fighters from Star Wars surround it. The absolute randomness of the design just cracked me up. The design of this site truly speaks to me, as there is very little text around the drawings, allowing viewers to interpret or enjoy the pictures without limitations. All the text does is introduce the pictures and their artists. Furthermore, the site is surrounded by graph paper, giving the illustrations a more authentic feel and enhancing the viewing experience.
OKAT posts quite often, once every few days in fact. The blog is very informal, allowing the visitor to the blog to enjoy it at his/her own pace. There is something here for everyone, from serious, moving artwork to fun, casual, and heartwarming designs. The fact that something as sad and deep as Daniel Jamie William’s drawings and Sonni’s cute, casual artwork can exist on the same site is amazing to say the least. I found myself thinking deeply about one illustration and smiling goofily because of the next one. I absolutely loved that this site could take me on a roller coaster of emotions literally from one photo to the next. Though all of the pieces are special in unique ways, there were two posts that made me an immediate fan of this site.
Though all of the pieces are special in unique ways, there were two posts that made me an immediate fan of this site. One of these posts was a collection of fan art depicting Walter White from one of the greatest shows ever, “Breaking Bad”. This post was so completely unexpected that I actually looked at it twice while aimlessly scrolling through the blog. I thoroughly enjoyed this post because of the emotion and feelings that all the art placed in the face of Walter. All of the drawings are unique in a way and they depict Walter’s transformation as a character in different ways, even though they are all showing the same transformation. The other post also caught me completely off guard. The fact that a professional artist would use his time to collaborate with a 4 year old just made me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside and I felt myself smiling involuntarily. The pictures were wacky yet made sense and that was the best part.
In short, Doodler’s Anonymous is a beautiful blog. No other site I’ve seen showcases the random thoughts that enter people’s minds than this site. This site is for everyone and I strongly recommend that people check it out because I can guarantee that you will find something that will grab your attention.
As I scrolled through Doodler’s Anonymous, I found it to be a charming collection of many different styles of art. The drawings showcased range from serious to cutesy to funny and I like that the depth of the artwork allows the viewer to, as Jaspree points out, experience a variety of emotions while scrolling through the site.
I just took a look at the post regarding Walter White in “Breaking Bad” and I must say, the sketches are amazing! There are so many variations in the way the illustrators decided to draw him, either by paint, or pencil, or markers, or by computer technology, and yet each show a respectable part of the character: Maxybloodline draws with a desire to make Walter White seem as though he is constantly acting in the shadows, while drjekl134 shows the worn face of Walter, drawing attention to his years of experience and the hardships he has faced (and has yet to face). Also, after looking at the other drawings, I realized that this blog posts not only beautiful art, but art that speaks in its own unique way, speaks with the minds of others (like you said). I can’t say it any other way!
The doodles on this site are amazing! While looking through them, I temporarily forgot that these were sketches and doodles because they are drawn so well! This website appeals to me because everyone has doodled at one point in their life, whether we admit it or not. It’s such a simple and sometimes mindless task that it’s easy to forget about the art aspect of doodling. This blog brings life to some of the best doodles that I have ever seen!
Wow I’m really loving the post with the artist collaborating with a 4 year old! I’ve never seen anything like it. Each drawing features two different styles that work well together, with the head being drawn by the artist and the body being drawn by the child. As a whole, it looks really creative.
It’s great to see that Doodler’s Anonymous features a Tumblr Blog of the Week post because I’m an avid tumblr user. This just makes it easier for me to find more cool blogs to follow!
As a doodler myself, I adored Doodlers Anonymous. The variety of drawings really struck a chord with me. I found it funny how I was looking at sketches that even I could’ve drawn, like those in “For the Wit of It” and they were lined up right along side complex drawings like “Kaleidoscope to the Sky”.
Scrolling down the page is like flipping pages through a communal doodlers’ journal.
You were right to point out its unique qualities because this blog definitely spoke to me.
I agree with Chelsea, as a doodler, I personally find this site both entertaining and inspiring. My notebook margins are usually filled with just pen or pencil drawings, but this site shows doodlers taking random scribbling to another level. The showcases are a great idea for making doodlers feel value in their “work.” I especially enjoyed the “drawn GIF’s” which looked like a person’s random ideas come to life.
Jaspree is right about this site’s ability to showcase people’s minds. It is great how such a blog gives value to people’s mental caprices.
I absolutely love this site as I also enjoy doodling. Depending on my mood, I might draw flowers and stars, or I might draw clouds and umbrellas. That is a major reason why I adore this site; it has art that is cheerful, dark, bright, black and white, and so much more. It was also awesome to see the way doodlers used different styles to draw Walter White. It ranged from cross hatching, to stippling, to abstract — it’s just fascinating how many ways a single subject can be interpreted.
The doodles are intriguing, with some showing more work than what is put into a mere doodle. Even with the mere doodles, we can see the influence that certain things have on the drawings and the mental state of the artist. This site also shows that some random lines in the corner of a page can be liked by many people.
