While one article started off about the closing down of a high school and another about a black middle-class family adjusting to a radically new neighborhood, they both spoke to how a society struggled to carry the weight of its people. In the case of Jamaica High School, they had to adjust to the changing tides of diversity that overwhelmed them with each year. Whether it was regarding the diversity of cultures or number of students, this high school had it all. However, they were crushed under the weight of those they were trying to help. Similarly, the government of Detroit that finally allowed minority families such as blacks new jobs and educational opportunities had to take it away due to a lack of planning. There is nothing much that an individual can do to survive in this society other than continue their pursuit for knowledge. Especially with less and less factories were being managed, the minority people of Detroit had nothing more to do than prove their worth to the world. Through the combined efforts of hard work and civil-rights activists, they left a legacy for generations to follow. In my own family, we regard education as the stepping stool to success. Even if our government does not give us the tools to craft our perfect future, that does not give us any excuse to blame another. If any of these groups were to depend on established organizations for their life, they would only get the short end of the stick no matter what they did.
