Hi Team!
Great work on your Project Brief. Here’s a bit of feedback…
1. Love your title! Except I’d consider changing “environmental policy” to “environmental justice”- in the title and throughout your proposal. I think it is more encompassing of the different issues you’re investigating. Here’s a link to principles of environmental justice, which you might find helpful: http://www.weact.org/principlesofej.
2. I think informing the public/raising awareness about this issue and its broader implications are great goals for your project! I’d like if you could specify what you mean by this- awareness in the local community? New Yorkers? Both? Also please include an explicit goal to support the work of your community partner.
3. Your research design and strategy look great. However it’s extremely important that you also investigate how this conflicts connects to the history of community resistance to this and related issues in the South Bronx. Your community contacts will be great resources for this.
4. Key Activities look good! I encourage you to think more about how you will obtain community knowledge besides attending a South Bronx UNITE meeting and talking to your contacts. Also, what is it that they have in mind with re. to the air-quality monitors? This is unclear to me.
5. I like the project deliverables you’ve suggested but it’s esp. important that you get input on what these should be/do from your community contact.
