Pictured above is a flyer that ACT UP used to persuade people to join in their protest on March 28, 1989. While walking around the exhibit, I kept coming back to this flyer and re-reading the same sentence over and over again. I was taken aback by the way this line made me feel like I committed a crime; it was almost like I was invading someone else’s space by simply standing on the sidewalk. This poster got me thinking that to an extent, I was invading someone’s house, because 5,000 people with AIDS had no where else to go but the sidewalk. The same sidewalk that I took advantage of and walked up and down without any care was (and still is to many) their house.
