The Big Picture

“Our task is to cut back content so that we can see the thing at all. “

In her piece entitled “Against Interpretation,” Susan Sontag emphasizes the point of minimizing  content as not to bombard our senses and give in to our “culture based on excess, [and] on overproduction.” I chose a picture of the wide open lobby of the Queens Museum to represent the museum as a whole. Within this obscure place, there is only room for five to six exhibits which allows the audience to focus on each exhibit and give the works within the attention they deserve. The small space and the limited content, lets the visitors explore each hidden nook and cranny, those that make up the big picture of the museum and that tell its story.
