Quote: “When we are prevented from seeing it, we are being deprived of the history which belongs to us. Who benefits from this deprivation?

I felt that Never Built New York fit this quote perfectly, because it shows the New York that could’ve been, but never was. In this way, we never saw what history could’ve been made by those unbuilt landmarks, and how different the present would be if those structures/projects had been completed. As for the question at the end of the quote, “Who benefits from this deprivation,” I think that no one benefits from the deprivation. Thinking in a purely economic mindset, the government and contractors were deprived of profit that would’ve accumulated from building even more possible tourist attractions – keeping in mind that New York is already one itself. Additionally, New York as a culture is deprived of the what possibilities and creations that would’ve stemmed from building said structures. Lastly, the people of New York are also deprived from what could’ve been an enormous part of their history and culture, but now won’t be because it was never built.
