Hello everyone! I am Javier Jbara. I was born and raised in NYC and I am Colombian, Palestinian, and Ukrainian. I am a double major in Jazz and Philosophy. There is nothing I love more than listening and playing music. My favorite genres are jazz (obviously), soul, funk, and hip hop. My favorite musicians are Charlie Parker, Fats Navarro, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Thundercat, Kendrick Lamar, and Nickelback. (just kidding on that last one) I am a pianist and a percussionist. Additionally, I love to hang out with my friends, play handball, ride my bike, and cook. My career plans aren’t very concrete yet, but I could see myself in the music industry as an entertainment lawyer. In these seminars, I’m hoping to form a more authentic relationship with my hometown. I am planning on doing that by not only doing the assignments and going places, but by making connections with people who have grown up in different experiences than mine. This summer I broke my wrist, so I wasn’t able to get out of the house that much.
