AVENUE Q

Avenue Q, the musical, was an amazing experience! Coming out of the theater after the performance I was so excited that I got to see the show. I was interested in it since my internship at City Guide two summers ago: the magazine advertised many Broadway shows and many of my coworkers have been to Avenue Q and they all raved about it. And they were right, I loved the show, I had so much fun watching it. The performance was spectacular: it was a touching story with great music, songs, and dances. The story was incredibly funny and heartwarming. It talked about real life issues but in a way that was entertaining and comical. Based on the Sesame Street’s theme that every one is special and unique, the show commented on what happens when children grow up and enter the adult world. The puppets made a connection to Sesame Street but they had their own personalities that made the show unique. As the viewer, I was engulfed in the performance from start to finish.

I think what made the show such a great success was the talented cast. The performers were very skilled in working with the puppets: speaking, making gestures, and interacting with other puppets seemed natural and easy although they all said they had no prior experience working with puppets. I couldn’t help but watch the faces of the performance because they showed so much emotion even though they were working with the puppets.

The whole performance was amazing but when the show ended and the cast came out to talk with us it felt surreal. Because they were in character during the show, seeing them just sitting on the stage, chatting with us felt like the actors of a movie just stepped out of the TV screen. I loved the whole experience and it by far surpassed my expectations.
