Both options below will allow you to resize your photo proportionally

In iPhoto:

• Select your photo in the library
• Go to “File” < “Export”
• In size select “Custom” then choose 800 as the max dimension
• Select the Export button

In Preview:

• Select “Tools” then “Adjust Size
• Choose 800 x 600
• Select the OK button
