The Greek Orthodox religion is an extremely important aspect of Greek religion. The church provides many social and cultural roles as well as religious roles. As the Greek population grew in Astoria, so did the demand for churches. There are currently 4 major Greek Orthodox churches in Astoria. Even as the Greek population moves out, the Greek churches remain a consistent staple in the cultural life of Astoria.
