I think this quote is interesting in that it really defines today’s society. I take this quote to mean that Heaven will have a nice, tranquil and serene environment, in which one can relax and be themselves. On the other hand, Hell is where one may find pleasure and have “a good time.” Although I’m not really a fan of this quote, I think it really defines most of our society’s logic and mindset.
I believe Twain is stating that most of your friends are bound for hell.
I agree with you George. Some movies and animes I’ve watched always show the characters making hell seem as if its something light. A line that comes to mind when I think of this is when a character says “See you in hell” in many of today’s action films as if it is something cool to say. Without a doubt, a lot of people think like this today.
