Anime and Language

Hi. Below is a clip from an anime called One Piece that I used to watch. In the clip, a pirate crew is singing their last song before they die. I found the scene to be a bit emotional even though it’s a cartoon and the song is in a language I don’t understand. Do you think that the language or the fact that the show is animated has much effect on the emotional aspect of the song and scene?

Last CHC class!

Today was such a bittersweet ending to the class and I just want to say that it has really been a great experience. I was truly fascinated by the different talents that everyone showcased in their final presentations. Not only that, but I was able to see all the new things that we learned about art reflected in the presentations… whether it be art, dance, music, or comedy. I am thankful to have been able to start off my Macaulay seminar classes with such a vibrant and charismatic professor and you guys, my brilliant peers. I will really miss going to all those shows with you guys, eating and passing around candy during the shows, and making fun of each other in class. Class was never boring, and I can honestly say that I had fun through it all!

The End of Self-Realization!

Alright, so guys, this is my last blog post of self-realization (and you will eventually see why). I was in my room postulating different ways I can make time to go see the arts during the future. During the time I was thinking about the ways, my parents wanted me to do some house chores; however, I didn’t pay attention and they were infuriated with me for not doing my chores. Therefore, I explained to them that I want to go to additional shows!! They told me that don’t worry about going to them now; there are always advances of art and you can not just see the advances later but also the importance of it in society.

Animal Grooming Art

Aside

So people put on make up, style their hair, wear clothes, and have their definitions of art/ fashion. What happens when pets do it? I admit that it can be thought of as a form of art, but it is only appealing to those who are into animal grooming…I found this particularly unnecessary and unappealing. What do you guys think?

$400 for jeans

So the other day we had a conversation about brand name clothing and how they can be really expensive. So i decided to look up True religion and i found out that they were selling jeans on their site for as high as 400 dollars. That’s enough to buy a box of no-brand jeans, but yet people still buy these 400 dollar jeans. I understand that they may do it for style or just to be wearing something that is a name brand, but sometimes i think that some companies go overboard. What do you guys think? here is a link if you want to check out the website.

Not-So-Family Christmas

Not So Family Christmas

So I came across this NBC christmas special, hosted by Blake Shelton. It’s really funny and involves various performances of popular holiday songs, as well as short, humorous skits about the holidays. This special also makes a lot of references to the TV show “The Voice,” so if you like that show, I recommend this! Also, if you have 40 minutes to kill, that’s how long this program runs for.

What do you guys think the purpose of incorporating holidays and humor?

Aren’t the holidays already a joyful time, why do we need to make them humorous?

Sometimes you just gotta let it go…

Let It Go-Zac Brown Band

Remember a few weeks back when Professor made fun of country music for being about riding trucks and drinking beer? With the exception of the opening of this song (“spent the night with a friend of mine and a handle of good whiskey”) this song has a pretty deep meaning. It reminds us to “keep our hearts above our heads and our eyes wide open” and to “save our strength for things that we can change, forgive the ones we can’t, we gotta let it go.” These are my favorite lyrics because it reminds me to keep my cool sometimes.

Thoughts?

Feedback?

Does the country/folk aspect of the song make it terrible?
