“Moonrise Kingdom” and being horribly picky

I think everyone in class knows how opinionated I am about movies. I mean, heck, I`m a film major, it`s my duty to care. So when I say Moonrise Kingdom is in my top 5 favorite movies, it is a huge deal. This movie is perfection. It is sweet and weird and slightly sad. To see such intense and emotional performances that I enjoy from two twelve-year-olds is a rarity. And I hate child-actors. Hate child-actors. So instead of doing that term paper, or studying for exams, use some time wisely and see this. If you hate it, you have my full permission to pinch me really hard.

    • They are usually used to envoke pathos and nothing more. Child actors are picked based on their cuteness/ability to cry and not their acting chops.

      • Too many films overturn your premise: The Impossible, Life of Pi, Paper Moon, Little Miss Sunshine, The Sixth Sense, Lord of the Flies, Billy Elliot, Tomboy, The Bicycle Thieves, 400 Blows, and if I had time now, I’d name a few hundred more.

  1. I remember you saying in class that you didn’t like disney movies…Guess this is another reason why huh?

    • What? I love Disney movies. Just not in the presence of most people. I need time to be alone with Disney movies, to sob silent tears.

      • Oh then it might have been someone else or I just misunderstood. By the way did you see the Home Alone movies? The star is a child actor so what was your opinion on the movie?

        • Macaulay Culkin is pretty cute, but, in my opinion, not a very good actor. Just good at being cute.
