A Humorous Holiday

There are many art forms associated with the holidays (i.e. Television specials, carols, home decor, holiday dinner, and more). What do you think about humor and the holidays? Today, I was watching a video YouTube and that video sent me to this song. It was included a list of unavoidable holiday songs. In this particular video the comedians at Saturday Night Live decided to create their own holiday song. What do you think about this comedic take on the holidays?

Macaulay Honors Snapshot 2012

Hi everyone!

Yesterday was the Macaulay Honors College’s Snapshot 2012 exhibition. We were asked to come to the event as it is one of our common events. At the college we were to make a video that would be posted on YouTube and then sent to the eportfolio site that was made for the event.

Here is the video that was made by Joseph, Chidi, Matias, Christian and me. I hope you enjoy it:

USPS Lost my Wig!

A little less than a week ago I ordered a cosplay wig online for Halloween. I was so excited to receive it! I heard the seller was fast and reliable; I ordered one of their wigs.

Last Wednesday I received an email stating that the wig was sent out. That made me happy. After waiting a few business days I noticed that the wig did not not arrive. I assumed it would be delivered on Monday; I waited. Today, I decided to check my email and see how long it was since I received the email from the seller. I decided to click the tracking number in the email and I realized that the package was already delivered! Not only that but to another zip code in the area! How cruel this world must be.. OTL

Why is this related to the Arts in NYC? Why would I spend $30 just to cosplay? I guess for the same reason that people spend money to go see movies, visit museums or even listen to music. I enjoy it. Cosplaying is an interactive art where not only do you dress as a character but you become the character for a day. Cosplay is a combination of two words: costume and roleplay. Without the roleplaying aspect you are just dressing up. Without the costume you are just you pretending to act like someone else. It’s a fun activity that many people participate in, especially during last weekend’s Comic Con convention. So my question is how many of you like to cosplay? If you do not cosplay would you consider cosplaying in the future? Why or why not?

Art Housed By an Equation

Similar to painting, drawing, dancing, writing and singing, mathematical formulas can can turn into a visual representation of something much greater. Behind those variables, coefficients and operations lie these beautiful 3D figures. Looking past the difficulty of mathematics, you learn that you are exposing yourself to a miniature art gallery in your textbook and even your notebook! For some it may be hard to appreciate the aesthetic appeal of mathematics since one might be focused on trying to solve the problem rather than admire it; however, maybe math could become just a little bit more exciting when looked at from an artistic standpoint.

While the functions do tend to get harder when you reach figures such as these, it really does grab your attention when you reach this point of mathematics.

My Dominican Heritage On a Canvas

These painting by the famous Dominican painter Guillo Peréz represent my heritage through a visual interpretation of the Dominican Republic. The colors that he utilizes show not only the warmth but also the earthy and tropical aspects of the Dominican Republic. The use of cool colors such as blue and green add to the tropical feeling as one does not think tropics without imagining the trees and ocean that you can find around the beach areas of the country. Peréz’s paintings can vary from warm and soft to sharp, bold and vibrant, just like the Dominican Republic.

Love Takes You Anywhere

Song Title: Anywhere
Artist: Evanescence

When I think of love I think of this song. This song take the complex idea of love and makes it simple by applying it to our idea of personal freedom. The implied couple in this song longs to be together but for some reason they have been holding back on each other. This could be because they were just starting out, getting to know each other and figuring out if this person is your true love. Once they are together for a while they want to take it to the next step, let go of anything that was holding them back and ending up together. The reason this song appeals to me is because the end is not reached in this song. The couple wants to go anywhere. The place they end up in is not told; all we know is the place they are going to is amazing and liberating and nothing can stop them from falling in love. Where they end up in the future is uncertain but they are feeling this wonderful emotion known as love and for anyone that experiences love that’s all that matters for now.
