Gowanus Canal Sponge Park

October 5th, 2012 · 1 Comment · Gowanus Canal

The authors of this article are Susannah C. Drake and Yong Kim.  The article talks about a new design for the Gowanus Canal, the Gowanus Canal Sponge Park, which will significantly decrease the polutants and storm water runoffs into the Gowanus canal.  In addition, the design also helps reduce pressure in the sewer systems and activate environmental and cultural resources.  The first construction is scheduled to begin in Spring of 2012.  The EPA, NY State Department of Environmental Concern, and the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission are collaborating and pooling their resources to make this project a success.  There isn’t a particular bias in this article, as it just states the methods and basic facts about the Sponge Park.  It is a very strong article as it has an abstract, which outlines the basic article, then it has the methods by which the construction of the Sponge Park will take place, and finally it has a section on desired outcomes.
