Sustainability from a Student’s Perspective

Shifrin, Barry. “BC Seeks Green Pastures for Future.” The Excelsior. 23 November 2009. Web. 9 October 2012. < http://www.brooklynexcelsior.com/news>

Barry Shifrin is a student at Brooklyn College who writes for the student newspaper, The Excelsior. I am not sure how credible a student newspaper is. However, due to the enormous relevance of the subject of the article to our project, I felt inclined to include it. In the article, Shifrin makes note of some of the steps the Brooklyn College community has taken or plans to take in order to create a more sustainable future. Some of these include installing steam traps and control upgrades in Boylan, Whitehead, and Ingersoll Halls, and considering obtaining food items sold in the cafeteria from local Long Island growers. Because a student writes the article intending to reach other students, there is bias in the writing. He focuses almost entirely on the positives, rather than showing where Brooklyn College is failing to achieve sustainability.

Are there leads in the article that you can follow up on for the PodWalk? Does he identify people who he interviewed? Sources of his data?
