Benchmarking Campus Sustainability

Galayda, Jaimie, and Jerry Yudelson. “Benchmarking Campus Sustainability .” Yudelson Associates. (2010): n. page. Print.

The authors of the article are Jaimie Galayda and Jerry Yudelson. Jaimie Galayda has a PhD and is a research director of Yudelson Associates, while Jerry Yudelson is the principal of Yudelson Associates. The main thesis focuses on benchmarking, which is developing comparisons for college sustainability based upon size, ambition, stage of development, history, and budgetary constraints. The authors’ intended audience are people who are researching methods of sustainability for college campuses and other buildings.

The article has a pro-sustainability bias. The strengths of this article is that it provides a unique method of campus sustainability, which tailors campus sustainability according to different factors of varying college campuses, making campus sustainability more accessible for all campuses. The weakness of this article is that it is rather short, causing it not to mention as much about the three pillars of sustainability or to provide examples of sustainability methods for different college campuses. This material is relevant to the project and I could imagine using it as a way to tailor sustainability for Brooklyn College according to its size, stage of development, history and budgetary constraints.
