Walsh, Dylan. “Taking Stock of Campus Sustainability.” Green: A Blog About Energy and the Environment. The New York Times. 23 August 2011. Web. 14 October 2012.

The author is a reporter for the New York Times. Despite, the sites designation as a blog, I believe the source is credible. It is simply a way to allow the Times to report on issues concerning the environment that could not make it to the newspaper. Walsh notes colleges’ focus on the environmental pillar, but the lack of attention given to social and economic issues of sustainability. He then reports on Oberlin College and Tufts University, and their way of involving the community in sustainability projects. Because it is an article on a blog, the intended audience goes beyond the Times’ usual audience of New York City residents, and could include college faculty and students across the country. Walsh acknowledged both the achievements and shortcomings of colleges, thereby showing very little bias. This article was one of the most interesting because it questioned whether colleges were actually in touch with the surrounding community concerning sustainability issues. From a previous source it seems that Brooklyn College was at odds with the community in the past, but after the project we will discover if this is still the case.
