U.S. Progress Toward Sustainability in Higher Education

October 14th, 2012 · 1 Comment · Brooklyn College

Dernbach, John C. “U.S. Progress Toward Sustainability in Higher Education.” Stumbling toward Sustainability. Washington, DC: Environmental Law Institute, 2002. N. pag. Print.

This is a chapter in John C. Dernbach’s book, Stumbling Toward Sustainability, written in 2002 on the subject of how the United States has made notable improvements in their sustainability policies. The purpose of this book is to not only give an account of how America has continuously improved its overall sustainability, but also to give many suggestions on how it can continuously be improved. This particular chapter, however, focuses on sustainability in higher education, which is obviously very relevant to our group, which is concerned with Brooklyn College’s sustainability. This is very valuable because the chapter contains a high amount of information on the indicators of sustainability, as well as the ways in which schools have gone about going green. It is very limited, however, in that it is an older book, and does not introduce any new or modern ideas to readers.
