Unknown. “Brooklyn College.” Wikipedia. Wikimedia Foundation, 14 Oct. 2012. Web. 18 Oct. 2012. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooklyn_College

There is no clear author for the Wikipedia page on Brooklyn College, so the contributors to the page cannot be shown as authorities on the subject. The author’s have no particular thesis, and this website is simply stating the history and information about the College. This website is intended for all people who want to learn about Brooklyn College and there doesn’t seem to be any slant, except for the section describing Hillel place. The Hillel section reads like an advertising flyer for the building, but every other section is merely listing public information on the school, devoid of opinion.

The web page is problematic in that its content cannot be completely verified. However, Wikipedia is known to make sources necessary for its pages and the content is moderated and any edits are subject to approval by the page creators. The content is not original, but collected from mostly credible and listed links. The links include some news articles, but only for school rankings. General history is retrieved from books on the subject or the school website. This material is very relevant to the project because the school history and structure of CUNY campuses will be important to mention in the podwalk script.

    Anything about sustainability?

  • Yaasen Bhutta

As far as ecological sustainability goes, it seems that in the inception of the college campus, a lot of thought didn’t go into it at all, which reflects the time period. Nothing indicates anything particularly detrimental to the environment, but in the 1930s sustainability wasn’t as important as building a college that could support the growing population of New York City.

Economic sustainability is mentioned; an old building called the Plaza Building was torn down due to inefficient energy use.

Current social sustainability trends are not addressed, but BC does have one of the highest number of Accounting degrees awarded to African Americans, while having a majority of the population come from immigrant ancestry.
